Few things can be more inconvenient than blocked toilets, but before rushing to put any kind of chemical down in the hopes of clearing the problem, remember that once you pull the toilet flush a complete tank of water is delivered and it's easy to see how you can suddenly be ankle deep in unmentionable substances.
If you are going to endeavour to clear the blockage, do not pull the toilet flush. Fill a bucket with water and use that, pouring it from the highest point that you find convenient. That way, you can stop pouring before the water starts to flow over the toilet bowl stays blocked.
